When to pause a campaign with signups but no sales
Signups without sales usually mean the campaign attracts the wrong people, or the path from signup to payment is broken. Decide which before you cut spend.
Check these first
- Is the conversion tag counting a signup or a payment? If it counts signups, the platform optimises for signups.
- Has the conversion window matured? A 14-day trial cannot show payments before day 14.
- Do signups from other channels pay? If they do, the product path works and the campaign brings the wrong audience.
- Which search terms or placements produce the signups? Look for informational or job-seeker queries.
Decision rule
Pause rule
| Condition | Action |
|---|---|
| Window not matured | Hold. Cap daily spend; do not increase. |
| Window matured, spend under your checkpoint, no payments | Hold and fix targeting or the tag. |
| Window matured, spend at checkpoint (e.g. $300), no payments | Pause for diagnosis. |
| Other channels also do not pay | Fix activation before any ad change. |
Write it down before you start
Set the checkpoint amount, the conversion window and the review date when you launch the campaign. A rule written in advance stops you from rationalising another week of spend.
Use this with your own numbers. Keep the evidence private, attach a budget and a review date.
